How IT-friendly audio solutions help higher ed do more with less

As they so often do, higher education customers can cut right to the heart of the matter. One of them opened a conversation with us recently with the following statement:

“If I have to bring in a programmer from my integrator to reprogram the audio in one of my classrooms, the bill for that work will mean I can refresh one less classroom this year.”

He made that statement to highlight why he loves Nureva® audio — there’s NO programming to get the system ready to use and there’s NO ongoing programming if the room layout changes.

Our audio systems are easy — to install, set up, use and manage — while offering a high level of performance. Increasingly, higher ed customers choose Nureva audio solutions for their classrooms and they enthusiastically endorse them when talking to others.

Higher ed realities

Almost all our higher education customers tell us the same things:

  • They are continually being challenged to do more with less.
  • They have more rooms to look after, but they don’t have an increase in their team or budget to do the work.
  • They are more actively involved in the evaluation and selection of the products they use in their classrooms and meeting rooms.
  • Everything needs to be EASY.

This isn’t just what we’re hearing in one country — it seems to be universally true. Everyone is challenged to do what needs to be done in higher education, but there’s also a tremendous opportunity like no time in the past to do some very interesting and productive things with audio in every teaching and learning space.

An IT mindset

We’ve seen a distinct shift in the mindset of IT directors in higher ed and other organizations. Except for the most exceptional of rooms, IT directors are looking for something they can easily install, set up, use and manage. They use words like easy and simplicity. They don’t have the staff or budget to handle bespoke configurations, and they don’t see the need to go that route.

Our customers are also telling us that instead of outfitting or upgrading a room or a few rooms, they need to outfit every classroom. This drives them to think about standards and replicability (areas of strength for us).

Cost is important

More and more, cost is entering the conversation. As a baseline requirement, an audio system must do the job, but once that has been confirmed, then very quickly system cost and other costs (installation, programming, etc.) enter the conversation.

As we’ve been increasingly advised, our higher ed customers deployed a lot of other audio solutions before they tried Nureva audio. Once they were able to validate our solutions’ performance, they were willing to make the switch and deploy our solutions for a lot less money and with less hassle.

HETMA approved

In 2024, we put our systems to the test by HETMA (Higher Education Technology Managers Alliance). Five member higher ed institutions in the United States tested our products on-site and granted us HETMA Approved status.

We received a report of the testers’ comments, which was invaluable to us in understanding just how higher ed tech managers were thinking about and reacting to our products — how our systems performed and our Microphone Mist™ technology. They raved and said our products’ performance exceeded expectations. Nice.

Learning more at ISE

As we gear up to spend a lot of time with our customers at ISE, we’re eager to see whether the mindset shift continues to trend in our direction. We think it’s accelerated, but our ISE engagements will confirm (or not) our beliefs. We’ll be listening hard to the thinking and needs of higher ed. We’ve no doubt that the conversations will be forthright and direct.

If you want to learn more about what Nureva audio can do for you in your classrooms and meeting rooms, drop by and see us at stand 2P750. And if you’re not at ISE this year, we’d love to hear from you — reach out to us at any time.
